What are you doing? (Part 4) Frustrations
22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
-James 1:22
“People do not know the Word until they begin to practice it and let it live in them. They may have sat under one of the finest teachers or preachers in the country for years, yet it has never become a part of their lives.”
~E.W. Kenyan
One of the hardest things for people to do in life is actually apply what they are learning. That’s what we’ve been talking about in this series. Isn’t it overwhelming sometimes? Applying what you’ve learned? Actually doing it?
You’ve been there, you start learning principle after principle, and before you know it you feel like your drowning in a sea of things you’re not doing. You try implementing everything all at once, and fall flat on your face. Before you know it, you want to throw in the towel. I’ve been there, I’m there now, and I’m sure I’ll be there in the future. However, I’ve learned one thing that has enabled me to keep pressing on and striving to get better every minute of every day.
It is the realization that becoming a Doer of the Word is a journey, not a destination.
You’ll never arrive, no one applies everything they’ve learned or does everything perfectly. Neither will you, just do your best everyday and you’ll find yourself doing more than you could ever imagine. Realize that you’ll be learning and applying principles for the rest of your life.
As I wrap up this series, I just want to encourage you to strive to be someone who actually acts on the things they’ve learned.
If you do get discouraged or frustrated, get around people who will encourage you. If we’re going to be all that God has called us to be, we’re going to have to act on His Word and surround ourselves with mighty men and women of God who will stick with us through the times we want to throw in the towel because we’re overwhelmed. They’ll make all the difference!
I hope this helped you… Thoughts?
