Is God not Enough?

11 “Is God’s comfort too little for you? Is his gentle word not enough? 12 What has taken away your reason? What has weakened your vision,13 that you turn against God and say all these evil things?           -Job 15:11-13

Do you ever have circumstances come into your life where it feels like even God won’t be able to get you through it? Maybe you’ve been a Christian for a while, and you know what God’s Word says about your situation, but your heart has become hardened.

I read those verses in Job and was blown away! “Is God’s comfort to little for you? Is His gentle Word not enough? What’s taken away your reason? What has weakened your vision to the point where you’re questioning God’s ability to get you through?

Toward the end of the book of Job, God asks him, “Where were you when I created the universe? The Heavens? The earth?”It was this question that finally got Job back on track, back to believing in the goodness of God.

I think sometimes we forget who it is we serve. I know I do. We serve the creator of the universe. Anytime we get our eyes on anything other than the greatness of God, our reason will be taken away and our vision will weaken.

God is always enough.

We just have to make a concious to decision to trust Him with everything in us and not lean to our own understanding. If you find your reasoning being taken away and your vision weakening, you’re not trusting God.

Spend some time in worship and prayer. Thank God for all the good things He’s done in your life. As you press into Him, the hardness in your heart will fade, and God will lift you from your current situation.

The Best Part of Getting What You Want (Part 2) – Thankful

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. -I Thess. 5:18

After my friend, Matt Crummy, commented on my post yesterday, I knew I had to write a second part to it. Matt said this, “One thing I’ve learned in this is in addition to the ‘best part’ being before you get something is the opportunity to thank God for it (where it came from) and to grow in understanding of His faithfulness and goodness.”

That hit home for me, big time! Thanking God for what He’s blessed you with is one of the greatest things we can do in life.If you’ll take a few minutes and list all the things you have in your life, a car, a house, a spouse, etc, I think you’ll find that God has been very good to you.

Learn to take time to give God thanks for what He’s already done for your life. He’s given you His Son, salvation, grace, mercy, peace, joy, an abundant life, the list goes on and on. If it wasn’t for God we couldn’t take our next breathe, we wouldn’t be here, we couldn’t enjoy our lives the way He enables us to. He’s a faithful God, He’s taken care of you in the past, He’ll take care of you now, and in the future.

Be Thankful… it’s One of the Best Parts of Getting What You Want!

Thanks for the insight Matt!

The Best Part of Getting What You Want

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. -Matthew 6:19-20

I was listening to this series by Keith Moore, and it’s been blowing me away! Keith said he talked to a friend who got a sweet sports car. He asked him, “What’s the best part about having that?” The man said, “The day before I got it.”

Isn’t that true about the things we want in life? We want something so bad, we dream of it everyday, we believe God for it, and can’t wait until we finally get to have it.  Then we get it, and after a few weeks, it loses it’s luster, and we’re onto the next thing we want.

I’m learning that: The Best Part of Getting What You Want is Not Having it Yet!

It’s the dream. The possibility of having it. Having to believe God for it everyday. Saving the money. Not knowing how you’ll get it. Researching it. Seeing it become a real possibility! It’s an exciting journey.

Whether it’s a job, a house, a car, a set of clubs, you name it, it won’t satisfy you nearly as much as you think it will before you get it. It’s great to want some things, it’s great to have some things, but let’s see what we want  from the right perspective: It’s just stuff. It can’t make you happy.

Bottom Line: We’ve got to replace our desire for stuff for a desire for God. Prov. 10:22 says that the blessing of God makes a person rich, and He’ll add no sorrow with it.

Pursue the one thing that enables you to enjoy what you have, that never gets old, never stops satisfying, and never disappoints: God.
