I was interviewing someone for an upcoming Learning to Lead podcast, and he said, “I believe God has given me a second chance. Act 2.” He is in his fifties and he is convinced his second act began four years ago when he was given 51 months to live. 51 months later, he is in great shape, but has an entirely different perspective on life. I have a desire to be a professional speaker and an author. As a result, I try to intentionally grow and learn as much as I can about that field. I am always looking for great books on how authors and speakers build their platforms as well as their businesses. As I was reading the book, I made a to-do list for myself based off everything Michael suggested. When I finished the book, I had over 110 action items to do. For years I’ve heard John Maxwell say, “Leaders always go first.” The more I grow, the more I realize how true that statement is. Do you want to see who the leaders are in your organization? Look to see who is always going first. Leaders don’t wait to see what everyone else is going to do, they choose to step out and lead, regardless of how they feel. If you desire to lead, start accepting the fact that you’re always going to be going first!
