Chicago Marathon 2011 – You in?

I’m going to be running the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 9th, 2011. I’m looking for people who would like to run it with me! I’m shooting to get a group of at least 3-4 guys to stay with, and a group of girls that could all stay together as well.

Chicago was the first marathon I ever ran. I loved it. You can read about that journey here.

If you’re interested, we can train together, spend a weekend in Chicago together, and create a memories that will last a lifetime together! Training would start at the end of May!

Registration for the marathon opens on February 1st and usually fills up in 1 week, so you will need to decide quickly.

If you’re interested, please comment on this blog post, message me on Facebook, e-mail me, send me a message on twitter, or fill out this form and I will get back to you:

Rewarded

12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.    -I Cor. 3:12-15

What are we here for? What will the legacy we leave here on earth be? Does what we do actually matter? What will God think of our lives? What that we did will actually matter in eternity? I’ve been thinking about  what gets rewarded in Heaven, because after all, everything we did with our lives is going to be thrown in the fire, and all that will remain after is what we did for God.

So what do we actually get rewarded for? Well…

  • We won’t be rewarded for how much money we earned or saved.
  • We won’t be rewarded for how popular we were, how many followers we had on Twitter, or how many Facebook friends we have.
  • We won’t be rewarded for how good we were at a certain sport or hobby.

  • We won’t be rewarded for what our title was.
  • We won’t be rewarded for how good we were and what we did not do that was bad.

We will be rewarded for one thing: Did we make a difference for Christ?

Did we lead people to Him? Did we do what He called us to do? Did we put Him first in our lives? Did we put Him first in our family? In our relationships? In our finances?

Matthew 6:33 says to seek FIRST the Kingdom of God. If we’re doing that in every area of our lives, we’ll make a difference for Him in every area of our lives. The end result: Our lives will count for something. Something so much bigger than anything we could pursue and spend our lives on otherwise.

What are you spending your life on? Is it all just going to burn up? Or will it make a difference for eternity.

Boundaries are Stupid . . . Right?

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. -Matthew 7:14

Boundaries. Limitations. Restrictions. Rules. When I hear those words, I cringe. All I hear is, “I can’t have fun”. I’ve heard over and over again in my life that I need boundaries. I read the book, Boundaries, at someones recommendation, I thought it was dumb. (Since then, I’ve changed that opinion!)

A few months ago, I had dinner with a mentor. It was a tough dinner. I got called out. I got challenged. I got a reality check.

The reality check was: I’ve never had boundaries in my life. As a result my life is getting out of control. If I don’t learn to establish healthy boundaries, I’ll never go anywhere worth going in life!

I’ve heard it said if you want to be successful, look at what successful people do on a daily basis, and do that.

When I look into the lives of leaders I respect and want to be like, I recognize that they have all established healthy boundaries to live in.

Over the past few months since that dinner, I’ve been working hard to establish healthy boundaries in my life. It’s been difficult, uphill process, but it’s been life changing. I’m nowhere near where I should be, but the changes I have made, have made a significant difference in my life.

Tomorrow I’ll share about the journey I’ve been on over the past few months. I hope they encourage you to recognize that boundaries aren’t stupid, they are the key to a successful life.
